Your Brand Doesn't Need Another Trend
A new Instagram trend appears.
Everyone starts using it.
You think:
“Should we do this too?”
Probably.
But also… maybe not.
Because not every trend belongs to your brand.
The internet moves FAST.
One week it’s a particular Reel format.
Then it’s a trending audio.
Then suddenly everyone is pointing at text floating above their head.
And by the time you’ve finally convinced your team to try it…
the internet has already moved on.
Welcome to digital marketing.
Trends are tools. Not strategies.
There’s nothing wrong with using trends.
They can increase reach.
They can make content feel current.
They can even introduce your brand to people who would’ve never found you otherwise.
But if every piece of content exists only because:
“Everyone else is doing it,”
you don’t really have a content strategy.
You have Wi-Fi and anxiety.
So what should you do instead?
Start with your brand.
Ask:
Who are we talking to?
What do they care about?
What do we want them to remember about us?
Why should they choose us instead of someone else?
Once you know those answers, trends become much easier.
You don’t have to chase every single one.
You can simply pick the ones that make sense.
Think of trends like seasoning.
A little can make the dish interesting.
Too much…
well.
Now you’re just eating seasoning.
Your brand needs its own personality, voice and point of view.
Because people don’t follow brands just because they use trending audio.
They follow brands because they feel something.
They laugh.
They learn.
They relate.
They remember.
And hopefully, eventually…
they buy.
So yes, use the trend.
But don’t let the trend use you.
